Australian cricket legend Mark Waugh criticized Alastair Cook after the former England captain came to the defense of Ben Stokes’ team following a poor performance in the Dharamsala Test. Cook’s comments came after a challenging day for tourists on the ground as India dominated proceedings in Dharamsala. Cook defended the performance of Brendon McCullum’s team, saying: “We are sitting here away from the emotions of the game. We are sitting here at home watching TV. I’m not defending England, but they’ve been away for eight weeks. It’s a difficult tour; “They are not robots.”

Responding to Cook’s defense, Mark Waugh expressed his disbelief at the former England captain’s prospect. In response to Cook’s comments on social media platform

“I can’t believe I’m hearing this from Alastair Cook. As an international cricketer, this is what you train for and get paid for. This is one of the best tours you can go on as an international cricketer,” Waugh said.

England’s poor performance continued on day 3 of the Test; After bowling out India for 477, the visitors again faced a collapse in the batting order, and the team was dismissed for just 195; of them, 84 were scored solely by Joe Root, who was the last batsman to be dismissed.

Following another defeat, England have faced further setbacks to their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. With only three wins in 10 matches, England is eighth in the table with just 17.5 percentage points.
