Disgraced Indian batsman Hanuma Vihari expressed disappointment over the Test team’s snub and said his aim is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy. Vihari last played for India in 2022 against England in the postponed Test match at Edgbaston, since then he has been dropped from the team.

Vihari has played 16 Test matches for India in which he scored 839 runs at an average of 33.56. However, he did not get consistent opportunities for India in the side. He was also removed from the central list of player contracts released by the BCCI last year.

The Andhra batsman recently resigned from captaincy of his national team in the Ranji Trophy to concentrate on his batting.

“I feel sad and disappointed not to be in the Test team, but we all go through ups and downs, and my job now is to score runs in the Ranji Trophy. The season has gone well, both for the team and for me. So the ambition is to score a lot of runs and try to get back into the Test team,” Vihari told ESPNcricinfo after Andhra beat Bihar.

The 30-year-old also said that he has not had any communication with anyone from the Indian team since he was dropped.

“No one has spoken to me recently, but Rahul Dravid did speak to me after my last Test and told me how I can improve, but no, I haven’t been in touch with anyone since then,” Vihari said.

The national stalwart said his main goal is to improve his game and help his team win.

“But I just think about improving my game and enjoying it. If I don’t do that, there is no purpose left. When I go to the middle, I just want to do my best for the team and score runs,” he added.

Meanwhile, despite being out of testing for about 18 months, he said he has no expectations.

“I’m at a stage (in my career) where I have no expectations. I give my best every time I bat and then whatever happens will happen,” Vihari added.
