The Morehead State Eagles and the Illinois Fighting Illini will meet at 3:10 pm ET on Thursday at CHI Health Center Omaha in an Ohio Valley postseason contest. Each of these teams will fight to keep a winning streak alive, as Morehead State comes in with six and Illinois with four.
Morehead State earned some postseason bragging rights after a successful outing two weeks ago. They beat the Trojans by a score of 69-55.
Several players turned in solid performances to lead Morehead State to victory, but perhaps none more so than Riley Minix, who scored 26 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Minix is on a roll when it comes to points, as he has scored 20 or more in the last three games he has played. Another difference-maker was Drew Thelwell, who had 21 points and two steals.
Meanwhile, even though Wisconsin scored a towering 87 points on Sunday, Illinois still came out on top. The Fighting Illini won their contest against the Badgers 93-87.
Illinois relied on the efforts of Marcus Domask, who scored 26 points to go along with eight assists and seven rebounds, and Terrence Shannon Jr., who scored 34 points. That makes it four straight games in which Shannon Jr. has scored at least a third of Illinois’ points.
The Eagles’ victory raised their record to 26-8. As for the Fighting Illini, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they have won seven of their last eight games, providing a nice boost to their 25-8 record this season.
Morehead State hopes to beat the odds on Thursday as experts believe they are headed for a loss. Those interested in the spread don’t face an easy decision as they are 20-10-1 and Illinois is 8-3.
