Rohit Sharma has his opinion on England’s Bazball

Indian captain Rohit Sharma said his team has been focusing on its own game rather than the type of cricket the opposition would play.

As Team India refocuses on the red-ball format, they will take on Ben Stoke & Co. in a five-match series starting Thursday in Hyderabad. It is England’s first tour of India since the ‘Bazball’ concept was introduced, which has been a huge hit where the tracks offer pace and bounce in abundance. However, the much-hyped phenomenon of playing the longest format of the game is yet to be tested on Indian soil.

While there has been a lot of talk about the way England play Test cricket, Rohit Sharma doesn’t want to delve into it at all. In Thursday’s pre-match press conference, the Indian captain said his team has been focusing on its own game rather than the type of cricket the opposition would play.

“We will look to play our cricket. I’m not interested in seeing how the opponent is going to play and all that. For us, we need to examine our cricket. Focus on what we have to do as a team and then go from there,” Rohit told the media a day before the series opener at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Uppal in Hyderabad.

Rahul will not keep wickets in the series.

Echoing the head coach’s words about KL Rahul, Rohit said that the Karnataka batsman will not don the wicketkeeper’s gloves in the series. It is a fact that Rahul has kept his ground since his return after his injury last year. However, the team management has decided to include a hurdles specialist in the Test series against England.

Now that Rahul is ready to play as a specialist batsman, the toss will be between KS Bharat and Dhruv Jurel. But Rohit, who did not give any name, said the call would be taken depending on individual performances.

“Yes, obviously those are the two goalkeepers (Bharat and Jurel) of the team. We will see and evaluate the performance. We’re obviously looking at the bigger picture. We want to give as many games as possible to the individual. But after each game we will evaluate what happens and what is best for the team. Whatever is right for the team will do the necessary things,” Rohit said.
