I’m so tired of Taylor Swift, and one thing drove me over the edge

[ad_1]

I’m over the Super Bowl.

On the one hand, we need a break from Taylor Swift, and she just needs a break.

That became very clear to me last Sunday night at the Grammy Awards. His fake surprise when he found out she had won Pop Vocal Album made me roll my eyes even more when she conveniently took the opportunity to announce a new album that will be released this year.

I’ve been trying so hard to ignore Taylor. I really have it. Even when she copied Beyoncé’s work or used his song with Ice Spice as a distraction after dating his racist ex, I just minded my business.

But it’s almost impossible to keep her business out of mine when she’s everywhere. And I had to address it on this week’s episode of “I Know That’s Right.” She’s been front and center at all of this year’s biggest award shows. She has been on ESPN almost as long as her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. And she’s been up and down on my social media even though I don’t follow her or any of her fan pages.

Swift has never impressed me. However, I respect the fact that a lot of people love her and her music and it’s just not for me, and that’s okay. Not everything is for everyone.

The growing problem for me is as she has been propped up. Her brand of feminism has never felt inclusive, but she has been praised for empowering women. Her relationship with Kelce is like any other celebrity romance, yet cameras show her during NFL games as if she’s on the sidelines calling plays. And she has received Album of the Year at the Grammys four times. A black woman has not won that honor in 25 years.

More than just a criticism of Swift, it’s about how she is talked about, how she is covered in the media, and how institutions praise her. This white, blonde woman is seen as the gold standard of the United States. That doesn’t sit well with me. The fact that she leans towards him doesn’t sit well with me either.

I’m not looking forward to watching America gape as his favorite girlfriend watches her boyfriend play America’s favorite sport. But Usher will be performing during halftime, so hey, I’ll tune in to his 13-minute performance.

And if it sounds like I hate it, I am.
