Ravindra Jadeja on Thursday apologized to teammate Sarfaraz Khan after he had inadvertently left him on the first day of the third Test against England in Rajkot.

Sarfaraz was racing through his innings, reaching his maiden half-century in just 48 balls, but his attempt to prolong his stay in the middle was cut short due to a mix-up with Jadeja.

The incident also sparked a furious reaction from Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the dressing room, when the 36-year-old was caught on broadcast cameras throwing away his cap after the race.

After the match, Jadeja took to Instagram and apologized to Sarfaraz for the confusion. “I feel bad for Sarfaraz Khan. It was my wrong decision. Well played,” the veteran all-rounder wrote on his Instagram story.

Sarfaraz had already referred to the incident in the post-match press conference saying that things like this are an integral part of the game. “He came to the dressing room and said: ‘Thoda sa miscommunication ho gaya tha… (there was a little misunderstanding)’. I told him, ‘Ye hota rehta hai.’ It’s part of the game,” Sarfaraz said.

In his first innings for the Indian whites, Sarfaraz smashed nine fours and a maximum in a counter-attacking display after India lost four wickets, and then added an 87-run stand with Jadeja.

Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat first in Rajkot. The hosts, however, lost three wickets in the first session and were 33/3 when Jadeja joined captain Rohit Sharma and the two centurions of the day formed a 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Despite the loss of five wickets, India closed the day with 326 runs on the board and Jadeja unbeaten on 110, Kuldeep Yadav had just opened his account and Dhruv Jurel, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel were still to follow.
