England player Rehan Ahmed was detained at the Rajkot airport due to a visa issue on Monday, February 12. The spinner had a single entry visa to India and was therefore detained by the airport authorities while he was flying back from the UAE for the second time in the last 30 days.

The England team arrived in Rajkot from Abu Dhabi for the third Test match of the series, which will begin on February 15. English cricketer Rehan Ahmed faced trouble for over two hours at the Rajkot airport after possessing the wrong visa. Rehan had a single entry visa to India and was therefore detained by authorities after landing in the country for the second time in the last month.

The escape from England in Abu Dhabi

Due to the long break between the second and third Test, the England team headed to Abu Dhabi to spend time with their family. The England Cricket Board took immediate action and immediately arranged a visa for the young player.

England team players including Joe Root, James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Rehan Ahmed, Shoaib Basir and Zak Crowley arrived in Rajkot. Both teams will practice tomorrow.

Shoaib Bashir’s ordeal

Earlier, young player Shoaib Bashir had faced a setback before the match in Hyderabad as visa complications forced him to return to England. Despite applying for his visa on December 11, 2023, and the rest of the touring group quickly receiving approvals from him, Bashir’s application was delayed. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) anticipated the matter would be resolved in Abu Dhabi during a pre-series camp, but ultimately had to send Bashir back to the UK for further formalities.

Former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad had criticized the ECB for X, saying that not following basic procedures, assuming things and then calling foul is “an old English custom”. The former cricketer had said that the delay was essentially because the visa was not stamped in the UK and the ECB thought it would be done in a third country.

“His visa needed to be stamped in the UK. The ECB sent Shoaib Bashir to the UAE, thinking it would be stamped in a third country. Not following basic procedures, assuming things and then complaining is an old English custom. Yes someone, It’s the ECB’s fault,” Prasad had written in X.
