Google Chrome continues to face new security threats and now the Indian government has issued a major warning alert this month. The latest Chrome security warning comes via the Computer Emergency Response Team of India (CERT-In) with a high severity rating, which will worry millions of Chrome users.

According to the latest CERT-In security bulletin, “multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome, which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (DoS) condition on the targeted system.”

Who is affected by the latest Chrome security risk?

The bulletin clearly states that people using versions of Chrome older than the latest version on Windows and Linux machines are at risk. Here are the exact details shared by the security agency:

– Google Chrome versions earlier than 122.0.6261.111/.112 for Windows and Mac

– Google Chrome versions earlier than 122.0.6261.111 for Linux

What security threat should Chrome users be concerned about?

The bulletin explains that “these vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to a use-after-free bug within the FedCM component; out-of-bounds memory access and inappropriate implementation in V8. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted web page to the target system.

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a DoS condition on the target system.” The best way to avoid falling victim to the new security threat is to update the Chrome browser on your Windows PC to the latest version.version, which has already been released by the Chrome team.

To be safe, users should download the latest software update available for Google Chrome on whatever platform they are on. You can do this by heading to the three dot menu in Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
