Instagram added a “photo doctored” warning to Kate Middleton’s Mother’s Day photo with her three children after she admitted editing the image.
“Photo/video altered,” the message reads in red. under the now viral snap. “The same doctored photo was reviewed by independent fact-checkers in another post.”
Users who click the message will receive more details about the warning.
“The same doctored photo was reviewed in another post by fact-checkers,” it said.
“There may be small differences. “Independent fact-checkers say the photo or image has been edited in a way that could mislead people, but not because it was shown out of context.”
More must-see royal coverage:
The new Instagram warning message comes almost a week after the Princess of Wales, 42, shared the photo with herself and Prince William’s children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, amid conspiracy theories about Middleton’s whereabouts.
Shortly after, several eagle-eyed fans noticed that the image was heavily edited.
Subsequently, several photo agencies even posted a “death notice” notification message regarding the family photo.
“On closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image,” reads a message from the Associated Press (AP) Reuters.
After facing backlash over the image, Middleton apologized and revealed that she was the one behind the edit.
“Like many amateur photographers, I experiment with editing from time to time. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion caused by the family photograph we shared yesterday,” she tweeted from the official account she shares with her husband.
“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
Kensington Palace has refused to release the unedited version of the photograph, despite the mistake made by the royal.
Middleton was admitted to the hospital in January for abdominal surgery.
Since her release, she has not been seen publicly, except for grainy photographs that have been published of the princess riding in the car.
Middleton will make her first public appearance in June at the Trooping the Color parade, which celebrates the official birthday of King Charles III.
