As far as the next James Bond is concerned, it appears the name is Taylor-Johnson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Or at least that’s what the British tabloid says. Sun would make us believe.
The newspaper has sparked viral speculation that the Kick ass The star is just minutes away from signing a contract to play one of the most iconic characters in cinema.
In a report published on its cover, Sun He said Taylor-Johnson has been “formally offered the job” and “will be signing his contract in the coming days.”
James Bond production company EON Productions declined to comment on the report, but that’s not unusual for the company run by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
As an EON source wisely pointed out to Deadline, if you spent your days reacting to reports about who will replace Daniel Craig as 007, you’d have time for little else.
This person took us away from Sun story this morning, but did not outright deny the report, which is top trending on X (formerly Twitter) in the US and UK.
What we can say with certainty is that Taylor-Johnson did little to disassociate herself from the Bond speculation as recently as last week.
“I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment,” she told fashion magazine Numéro in an interview.
We also know that Broccoli claimed just a few weeks ago that there was nothing to report. “There’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond movie,” he told our Baz Bamigboye in February. “There’s nothing. Nothing’s happening yet.”
However, growing speculation about a new Bond fits with Broccoli’s timeline for the film. The producer told Baz in June 2022 that There is no time to die the follow-up was a couple of years away.
He added: “There is no script and we can’t come up with it until we decide how we are going to approach the next film because, in reality, it is a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. “I would say filming is at least two years away.”
That milestone is quickly approaching, and so the whispers are getting louder.
This month only, Sun The journalist who reported that Taylor-Johnson will play Bond wrote that Cillian Murphy was “in the running” to play the British spy.
Other actors appearing in the 007 speculation cycle include Happy Valley star James Norton and The snow falls Damson Idris. Tom Hardy, Idris Elba and Henry Cavill have also been heavily linked.
Bond rumors have been shaken up, but EON Productions has yet to budge.
