During a recent AMA session on Instagram, Janhvi Kapoor revealed that she is very “inspired” by Zendaya, who showed off her method of dressing during the promotions of her films, Dune and Challengers. So, during the events leading up to the release of her upcoming film Mr & Mrs Mahi, Janhvi was also seen sporting outfits in keeping with the theme of the film. A while ago, she caught her attention when she put on a red dress with miniature cricket balls installed on the back of her. At the trailer launch, she was wearing a jersey-style blouse and today, at the launch of the film’s first song, Dekhha Tenu, she completed her look with a bag that resembles a cricket ball.

Talking about how she tried to push her co-star Rajkummar Rao to do the same, Janhvi exclusively tells News18 Showsha, “I had given Raj some cricket pins and told him to wear them.” He looks his own for Mr & Mrs Mahi promotions and jokes that he has been professionally styling his family and friends for some time now.

Apart from Zendaya and social media sensation Uorfi Javed, whom Janhvi praised for being “creative”, she reveals that she also took inspiration from Alia Bhatt when it comes to dressing. “Uorfi, Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy and even Alia during Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani had done a great job and did it beautifully. This not only had a souvenir value for her films, but also brought attention back to her films,” notes Janhvi.

Happy that his style statements are creating the right buzz for his film, he tells us, “I’m having fun. I love dressing up. It feels like working on a school assignment. So I’m treating it like that (laughs). My stylist and I are sitting on every look and accessory. “I don’t know how much it will help the film, but I’m happy that it has become a topic of conversation.”

According to Janhvi, this is the second time she has dressed keeping in mind the theme of her film after her debut vehicle Dhadak. She adds, “Every time a film releases, the makers and crew always tell us to dress similarly to our characters. I did that in Dhadak and then I realized that quite a bit of attention is paid to how all the actors dress and look and that becomes a topic of conversation. The method of dressing is just another trope.”

On a related note, the trailer of Mr & Mrs Mahi highlights the protagonists’ romance, their love for cricket and their aspiration to achieve success in life. Directed by Sharan Sharma, it is all set to release in theaters on May 31.
