JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first full moon of 2024 will light up the night sky on Thursday.

On Thursday, January 25, skywatchers will be able to take in the night sky on January’s full moon known as the “Wolf Moon.”

The Full Moon in January is known as the Wolf Moon because of the “packs of wolves heard howling outside villages in the cold, deep snows of winter.” according to nasa.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac said the moon will reach maximum illumination on Thursday at 12:54 pm EST.

The moon will rise over the northeast horizon around sunset. The Golden Hour will be between 7:20 am and 7:57 am and 5:21 and 5:56 pm on Thursday, according to Moon phase.
