Jasprit Bumrah, after a brief break from cricket, will be back in action when the third Test against England begins in Rajkot on Thursday. The series is tied 1-1 with three more tests remaining. The first Test was won by Ben Stokes-led England, while the second Test was won by Rohit Sharma’s men. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah took nine wickets in the match and played a crucial role in India leveling the series. After the match, like other players of the Indian cricket team, Jasprit Bumrah spent some quality time with his family.

Recently, Jasprit Bumrah was praised by South Africa pace great Dale Steyn. “I don’t think there are Test bowlers at the moment who can essentially run and bowl wicket-taking yorkers,” Steyn said.

“To take wickets in Test matches, there are probably a handful of guys who could do it. Trent Boult was one of them, maybe Mitchell Starc. And obviously Bumrah.”

Reflecting on Bumrah’s effectiveness in all conditions, Steyn emphasized his unorthodox but effective bowling style.

“I remember saying a long time ago that a good yorker who bowls in India, South Africa or Australia is still a good yorker because you take away the surface, no matter where you bowl it.

“You take away the playing field and I think that’s something he’s done very well.

“Overall he’s a fantastic bowler. And it’s no surprise that with his kind of slippery action, he’s got that. He takes wickets on those tame deliveries, so he’s fantastic,” Steyn added.

“Being an Indian player, there will be a lot of workload. India plays a lot of cricket, they are one of the most sought after teams in the world.

“It seems India don’t really miss him because the substitute bowlers are up to the task and it’s a huge credit to Indian cricket.”
