Jenn Tran, a contestant on Joey Graziadei’s season of “The Bachelor,” has been named the lead for season 21 of “The Bachelorette.”

Franchise host Jesse Palmer, along with former “Bachelorette” star Charity Lawson, revealed the news during “The Bachelor” season 28 finale on Monday night. Tran will make “Bachelor” franchise history as the first Asian-American Bachelorette.

Palmer brought out Tran during the “After the Final Rose” ceremony of the Graziadei season finale.

“I’m looking for someone who has a great personality,” Tran said. “What I like most is having fun, having those cheeky jokes.”

On becoming the first Asian American Bachelorette, Tran said, “It’s honestly amazing and I feel so grateful and honored to be the first Asian Bachelorette on this franchise. When I was a kid, I always wanted to see Asian representation on television. I feel like it was very lacking. Every time Asians appeared in the media it was to play a secondary role, to fulfill some kind of stereotype and I always felt cornered by that because I was like: I don’t see myself on screen. “I don’t see myself as a main character.”

In an official press release, ABC described Tran as “a sweet and compassionate woman who has dedicated her life to helping others and is currently studying to become a medical assistant. The bilingual Vietnamese beauty currently resides in Miami and is ready to find love with a man as trustworthy and thoughtful as her. When she is not studying, Tran loves to read, row, and travel whenever she has the opportunity.”

“The Bachelorette” is produced by Next Entertainment and Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Bennett Graebner, Claire Freeland, Jason Ehrlich, Tim Warner and Peter Gust are executive producers.

No premiere date has been set for season 21 of “The Bachelorette,” but the series will air this summer on ABC and Hulu.
