The 1994 film ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ is considered one of the greatest films ever made and has clearly had an impact on Jim Harbaugh.

At Harbaugh’s introductory press conference after being named new head coach of the Los Angeles ChargersThe 60-year-old man described his excitement making a comparison to Morgan Freeman’s character in the film, Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding.

The film tells the story of “Red”, the prison smuggler, who befriends Andy Dufresne, falsely accused of Tim Robbins.

“I’m so excited I can’t sit still or keep a thought in my head,” Harbaugh told reporters. “What a free man would feel before a long journey.

“I just want to cross the border. I want to shake hands with my friend, that’s how I feel. I want to win. I want to win the right way. I want to treat people first class. Get really good at football and attack every day, like (Chargers president of football operations) John (Spanos) said.

“I am attacking everything with an enthusiasm unknown to humanity.”

Harbaugh was announced as the Chargers’ new head coach last month after nine successful seasons with the University of Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to a College Football Playoff national championship earlier in the year.

Harbaugh has coached in the NFL before, spending four successful seasons as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, although he lost in his only Super Bowl appearance to his older brother, John.

But now the Chargers’ new head coach wants another chance to make it to the big time.

“I said this the other day, but I only have so many sands left in the hourglass and I want another chance,” the new Chargers head coach said.

“I want to have another chance to just be known as world champions. The Lombardi Trophy. “That’s my mission,” Harbaugh added.

He will oversee a veteran-laden roster that has failed to live up to its Super Bowl aspirations in recent years.

Between star quarterback Justin Herbert – whom Harbaugh calls a “crown jewel” in the NFL – and a slew of defensive players, the Chargers head coach acknowledges he has to “work hard” every day to Maximize your new team’s chances of success.

Justin Herbert looks to pass against the Denver Broncos.

“What is obvious is this enormous talent. These days I wake up very early in the morning thinking, ‘I have to do it, I have to give my best game in every sense of the word,'” Harbaugh said.

“I want to assemble and hire a coaching staff that is worthy of coaching not only Justin (Herbert), but also Derwin (James Jr.) and all the guys,” Harbaugh added.

“I really think this is a talented group that has come together here. That’s what will motivate you, that’s what will drive you. “I’m really thinking about my responsibility and making sure that I’m ready and that the things I tell him are going to be accurate because I’ve watched and watched.”

Harbaugh added: “Let’s see if I’m man enough, a good enough coach, that all of their hard work can be done. “I want to work very hard to make your hard work come true, Justin (Herbert) and all the players on our football team.”
