John Oliver was on NBC Today is the show when he found out that his former boss Jon Stewart would be hosting again The daily program.
Stewart was introduced today by Comedy Central as the host of the Monday night late-night show during the election, with the news team’s correspondents handling the other days.
Oliver said he was “shocked” to hear the news, but said it will be “exciting to see what he does” and compared him to Michael Jordan.
He Last week tonight the presenter added that he believes The daily show needs a permanent host and backed former correspondent Roy Wood Jr., who left the show last year, or Amber Ruffin.
“I mean, that’s a surprise,” Oliver said. “That’s a show that needs a host. It is certainly very, very good. So yeah, it will be exciting to see what he does. I think after 2025 they should appoint a permanent host. “I would have hired Roy Wood, or Amber Ruffin is very good, but it will be very exciting to see Jon again in an election year.”
“Jordan is back,” he added, referring to the NBA legend’s decision to return to the Chicago Bulls after previously retiring.
Oliver was a correspondent in The daily show between 2006 and 2013 and subsequently left to headline his own show (after a summer hosting SDT) before embarking on her own long Emmy-winning career.
