A limited series about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey is currently in development at MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. Variety has learned.

The project’s official logline states that it “details the mysterious death and surrounding media frenzy in the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, a case that captivated an entire nation and left us with more questions than answers.”

Richard LaGravenese will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the project. Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach sold the project to MTVES and 101 and are also executive producers.

LaGravenese has primarily worked in film during his career. He has worked on the scripts for films such as “Unbroken,” “Water for Elephants,” “Freedom Writers,” and “The Horse Whisperer.” He also directed “Freedom Writers,” as well as films like “PS I Love You” and “Beautiful Creatures,” with LaGravenese also writing the latter two.

He is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Schreck Rose.

Ramsey was just six years old when she was murdered and her body was discovered in the basement of her family’s Colorado home hours after her parents reported her missing. There have been numerous theories about who killed her, including that she was a family member or someone who broke into the house, but the case is still officially open.

The case was the subject of intense media attention at the time and continues to be so more than 25 years later. To date, several documentaries and news specials have been made about the case.
