Josh Peck has broken his silence on Investigation Discovery Silence on the set: The dark side of children’s television docuseries, which put its Drake and Josh her co-star Drake Bell in the spotlight. The actor and musician revealed that his speech coach had sexually abused him as a child while working at Nickelodeon.
“Finish the Quiet on set documentary and it took me a few days to process it,” Peck’s Instagram post began. “I reached out to Drake privately, but I wanted to lend my support to the survivors who were brave enough to share their stories of physical and emotional abuse on Nickelodeon sets with the world.”
He continued: “Children must be protected. Reliving this publicly is incredibly difficult, but I hope it can bring healing for the victims and their families, as well as necessary change in our industry.”
Peck’s statement comes a day after Bell asked his fans, who criticized the oppenheimer actor not to speak on behalf of his co-star, to “take it a little easy.” She added that Peck had already contacted him personally to express his support.
“It’s been really touchy, but he reached out to talk to me and help me get through this and it’s been really great,” Bell shared in a TikTok. “So he just wanted you guys to know and take it a little easy.”
Peck previously spoke about how he and Bell split after the end of Drake and Josh. During an appearance in Best friends of Dave Portnoy, Josh Richards and Brianna Chickenfry In March 2022, the actor noted that They were no longer friends.
“We were kids, right? Obviously, there were times when we were closer, but when the show inevitably ended, I mean, we’re just totally different kids,” she said at the time. “Drake and Josh It’s something I will forever be synonymous with and I’m proud of it. And I want to like the guy my name is associated with forever, but unfortunately, everything turned out the way he did.”
In the four-part docuseries ID, Bell shared her story of childhood sexual abuse when she was 15, at the hands of her former speech coach, Brian Peck, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a Nickelodeon child actor in 2004. The series revealed that the child actor was, in fact, Bell.
The actor and musician is one of the many child stars who were on Nickelodeon and performed Silence on set with allegations of abuse, sexism, racism and inappropriate behavior surrounding shows directed by Dan Schneider in the early 2000s. Those series include The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious and Sam and cat.
Schneider has since broken his silence after watching the docuseries, noting that it forced him to confront his past behaviors and that he regrets some of them.
“When I watched the show, I could see the pain in some people’s eyes, and it made me feel very bad, sorry and sorry,” he said in the video obtained exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter. “I wish I could go back, especially to those early years of my career, and bring the growth and experience that I have now and just do a better job and never, ever feel like it was okay to be a jerk to anyone. ever.”
