Kadarius Toney accused the Chiefs of lying about his injury

Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was either a full or limited participant at practices this past week because of a hip injury. And he was listed as questionable for the AFC Championship Game.

Toney, 25, hasn’t played since the Chiefs’ 27-17 win at New England on Dec. 17, a game in which a pass went off his hands and was intercepted by a Patriots player. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was visibly upset on the sideline after the play.

That led to speculation that Mahomes and/or the Chiefs were not happy with Toney — and fans wondered if that’s why he hasn’t played.

An answer to that question may have come from Toney himself.

In an Instagram live video on Toney’s account Sunday, he accused the Chiefs of lying about his injury.

“Hey, look,” Toney said in an expletive-filled rant. ”You all reading all this cap-ass (stuff). You can really believe it, I don’t give a (care). … But yeah, that (stuff) cap (is untrue). I’m not hurt. … I’m not hurt. None of that. It goes from hip to ankle to this to that.”

As the video was being circulated on social media, the Chiefs announced he was inactive for the Sunday’s AFC Championship Game in Baltimore.

The Chiefs acquired Toney from the Giants during the 2022 season, sending New York a pair of 2023 draft picks (Nos. 100 and 209).

Toney made a big impact in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia. The Giants’ first-round pick in 2021 caught a touchdown pass and his 65-yard punt return set up another score for KC. It was the longest punt return in Super Bowl history.

This season, Toney has appeared in 13 games and has 27 receptions for 169 yards and a touchdown.
