Kate McKinnon trolls Pete Davidson in Hellman’s Super Bowl ad

It is that time of year. No, not winter. No, it’s not awards season. It’s Super Bowl commercial season. (Okay, that’s all three).


Kate McKinnon is selling mayonnaise for Hellman’s at this year’s Super Bowl. In the ad, she is eating spoonfuls of the product accompanied by a fellow troller. Saturday night live alum Pete Davidson, who starred in Hellman’s Super Bowl ad last year.


Hellmann’s ad, revealed by PEOPLE On Tuesday, McKinnon hangs out with a cat named Mayo Cat, who meows the word Mayo. Naturally, a talking cat will achieve stardom. McKinnon and his feline friend hit the talk show circuit, and Mayo Cat even ends up dating Davidson.

But of course, Mayo Cat and Davidson break up, which lands them on the cover of PEOPLE under the headline “Mayo Cat Leaves Davidson!” With a wink, McKinnon tells Mayo Cat, “You lasted longer than most.”


While Hellman plans to entice viewers with a talking cat and playful banter at Davidson, the commercial also addresses food waste, suggesting that a little mayonnaise could help make the most of some leftovers.


“It was a lot of fun,” McKinnon told PEOPLE. “I’ve always wanted to do a Super Bowl ad and was excited to be presented with one that had a positive social message and also involved cats.”
