Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle did not know that Kate Middleton was fighting cancer until the Princess of Wales announced it in a video message on television. Shortly after Kate’s public announcement, the Prince and Princess of Sussex issued a statement.
Multiple sources confirm, according to The Independent, that there were no conversations about Kate’s diagnosis before her announcement. “Harry is believed to have learned of Kate’s diagnosis on television, at the same time as the public,” the publication added, citing sources.
“We wish health and healing for Kate and her family, and hope they can do so privately and peacefully,” Harry and Meghan said.
Kate, in her message, requested “time, space and privacy” while undergoing her treatment. She underwent abdominal surgery in January, after which she was diagnosed with cancer. However, the type of cancer has not been revealed.
Kate said in her message that she was “fine.” “I’m getting stronger every day by focusing on activities that help my recovery,” she added.
The White House, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and King Charles, whose cancer was presumably diagnosed at the same time as Kate’s, have appreciated the princess’s courage in making an open public announcement about her illness.
Conspiracy theories about Kate
Kate’s absence from public appearances has been scrutinized. Many people wondered why Kate, who had posed for photographs shortly after giving birth, was absent for an extended period after her seemingly regular abdominal surgery.
An official photograph, published on Mother’s Day, turned out to be digitally manipulated. This fueled the rumors even more. Then, a video began circulating apparently showing Kate and Prince William in a “happy, relaxed and healthy” mood while out shopping.
Even that video was questioned as many refused to believe that it was Kate in the video. Rather, they argued that it was a double. The timing of the video showing William with a Kate “double” was released helped conspiracy theories grow stronger.
Kate, however, cleared up any confusion with her cancer announcement. At the same time, she has found everyone at her side during her treatment.
