Kate Middleton’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, sheepishly apologized for criticizing Meghan Markle, whom he nicknamed “the laughing girl,” in a interview with The Times UK.
Throughout the discussion, which took place before the Princess of Wales announced she had been diagnosed with cancer, Goldsmith heavily criticized the Duchess of Sussex’s marriage to Prince Harry.
“As many of you will have seen, I appear in Saturday’s ‘Times Magazine’. This interview and photo shoot took place over a week ago and went to print before I realized the sad news about my 58-year-old “Celebrity Big Brother” alum niece Kate. tweeted via X weekend.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the entire family at this difficult time and deeply upset by the timing of this article,” he continued. “I hope this puts an end to the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William and the kids time and show them some love.”
Many flocked to the response section to weigh in on Goldsmith’s comments.
“Stop talking about them. Only for. Stop using them to try to make yourself relevant. You are not aware. That’s why you’re not aware. You keep talking with your mouth,” one person urged, while another wrote: “You should have kept your mouth shut, don’t be ashamed of loyalty.”
Throughout the interview, Goldsmith called the 39-year-old “Suits” alum “fickle” and “bad for our country.” He also said he didn’t appreciate Markle accusing members of the royal family of making racist comments about the skin color of his son, Prince Archie.
Although Markle and Harry never revealed who made the alleged comments, Dutch copies of Omid Scobie’s latest book, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival,” claimed it was Middleton and King Charles III.

“That’s why I’m so angry about what Meghan said about Kate. Carole (Middleton) and I grew up in a community as diverse as a Woolies pick’n’mix counter,” Goldsmith explained. “All the cultures you can imagine. The thought of Laughing Girl saying Kate is racist makes me furious. Kate knows her family roots and is proud of them. “I’m sorry, but Laughing Girl is not good people.”
Times UK noted that the interview was conducted before Middleton, 42, shared a video message in which he revealed that he is in the early stages of preventive chemotherapy.
“In January I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time my condition was thought to be non-cancerous,” he said. “The surgery was successful. However, tests carried out after the operation revealed that there was cancer.”
In the wake of the news, Goldsmith also said he would withdraw from the UK’s “Celebrity Big Brother” finale on Friday night.
“Following today’s news, I will not be attending tonight’s Celebrity Big Brother final.” wrote in X. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my housemates and everyone involved in making this brilliant show,” she added. “I hope everyone enjoys their special night.”
