“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” his family shared on X/Twitter.
“For five and a half years, Ken faced a series of terrible challenges due to ALS. And in true Ken style, he managed to overcome each one with grace and commitment, to live a full and happy life in every moment. “He lived by the principles that every day is a gift and we never walk alone,” his family said in a partial statement on Instagram. Mitchell publicly announced that he had been diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), in 2020 in a interview with People.
“The moment they told us it was (ALS), it was like I was in my own movie,” Mitchell told the publication. “That’s what I felt, like I was watching that scene where someone is told they have a terminal illness. “It was just complete disbelief, a shock.”
Mitchell played three Klingon characters in Star Trek: Discovery’s first two seasons. He played Kol in season 1, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik in season 2.
