Killer Mike was led away in handcuffs shortly after winning three Grammy Awards on Sunday night. In a video posted by Hollywood Reporter staff writer Chris Gardner on X shortly after 7:20 p.m., the Atlanta rapper and activist was seen being led away in handcuffs before the main awards ceremony aired.
Shortly after 11:30 pm EST, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Killer Mike was taken into custody after being involved in a physical altercation on Sunday night. The agency’s media relations division reported on X that the rapper and activist, born Michael Render, was booked on misdemeanor assault. He is in the process of being released.
LAPD NEWS: Sunday Arrest Incident
On Sunday, February 4, shortly after 4 pm, an adult male was detained and handcuffed for a physical altercation that occurred in the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court.
The suspect was arrested and transported to LAPD Central Division.

No official information has been released as to why the rapper was detained, but TMZ reports that, according to law enforcement officials, “Killer Mike was taken into custody after allegedly getting into some type of physical altercation with a security guard at the event.”
In a later post, TMZ released a video that appears to show the aftermath of the incident and reports that “he is now being booked for assault on a citizen’s arrest… this after he allegedly had physical contact with a security guard at the location, while he was in the rain.”
I just spoke with an official who tells me that it is a minor crime and that it has nothing to do with what happened here today inside the arena. He will likely be released once the issue is resolved. “It’s a big nothing,” says the source.

When reached by text message, Killer Mike told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “About zealous security, but I’m good,” following the Sunday night incident.
When they asked him minutes later if he was still detained, he responded: “I’m fine! Three Grammy Awards right!”
During the Grammy Awards pre-show, Killer Mike took home the award for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song, winning every award for which he was nominated.
