Machine Gun Kelly Explains Blackout Tattoo in New Song ‘Don’t Let Me Go’

The new era of Machine Gun Kelly is here.

The rapper released a new heartbreaking balladtitled “Don’t let me go,” on Wednesday, a day after go viral for posting photos of his torso, arms and chest covered in new opaque tattoos.

Fans went crazy over the designs and many wondered what MGK meant when he said via Instagram that it was “for spiritual purposes only.”

Naturally, the songwriter, who has openly spoken about his struggles with mental health in the past, used his music to provide some clarity, telling fans it was the result of “a breakdown.”

“Lately my thoughts are eating me alive / I lay in bed thinking maybe the hate will finally go away if I’m not alive,” MGK (real name: Colson Baker) raps at the beginning of the song while playing the piano.

“I wish I hadn’t listened like I wish I’d ever been understood / I had a nervous breakdown and I got my whole body tattooed except for one line / Everything’s fine.”

In the accompanying music video, a somber MGK, 33, rolled up his black and white shirt to reveal the new artwork and the return of his pink hair color.

“Sliding again / There I go slipping again / I’m acting different again. “I see the reflection of my family every time I look at the cup and drink it again,” she continues. “After the sins / tell me after all the sins will they mention me again? Why do I care if in the end it’s just me and God like we’re a Christian again?

Throughout the track, MGK also addresses the ups and downs of his relationship with his fiancée Megan Fox, a heartbreaking miscarriage, the death of his father, suicidal thoughts, the constant pressure he feels as an artist, and more.

“Who am I when the music stops / and the character I’ve been playing is really broken and fucking lost,” he sings in another verse. “I swear I’ve been telling you over and over in all these songs / But you don’t listen to a thing I’m writing ’cause you’re too busy trying to write me off.”

As Page Six Style previously reported, MGK’s new opaque tattoo, which covers most of his arms, upper chest and shoulders, was done by famed ink artist Roxx in December 2023.

“I made some art with @machinegunkelly. “I have never met a tougher one,” the artist wrote via Instagram On Tuesday, MGK responded in the comments: “🤞🏼😤 thank you for the joy and pain.”

Meanwhile, Fox, 37, recently revealed her own new ink, a “newly reworked” cover featuring birds and flowers, at a 2024 Grammys after-party earlier this month.

The “Jennifer’s Body” star debuted the artwork after revealing in a November 2023 appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that he had recently gotten a large tattoo that he didn’t like and would have to get redone.

“It’s my entire arm, so it’s no big deal,” he joked at the time.
