Maisy Stella, who gave a starring turn in this year’s Sundance hit “My Old Ass,” has booked the third lead role in a mysterious new project from Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Pictures.

Stella joins Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor in the untitled feature from director David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows,” “Under the Silver Lake”). Plot details have been under wraps since the project was announced, but the film is classified as a thriller in numerous film indices.

Mitchell is directing from his original script and will produce alongside JJ Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot and Jackson Pictures’ Matt Jackson. Good Fear Content’s Jake Weiner and Chris Bender will executive produce. Sheila Walcott and Zach Hamby will oversee Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

Stella’s “My Old Ass” premiered in January at Sundance to rave reviews, directed by director Megan Park and producer LuckyChap. The film was one of the few to land immediate and lucrative distribution deals, selling to Amazon-MGM for over $15 million with commitments for a wide theatrical release. She stars in the coming-of-age comedy alongside Aubrey Plaza and is scheduled to hit theaters later this summer.

In his review for VarietyLead critic Peter DeBruge called “My Old Ass” a “future classic,” one that is “honest about teenage desire, questioning sexual identity issues and all sorts of behaviors that make moms and boys “Worried parents go into crisis mode.”

Stella got her start on the television hit “Nashville.” She is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, Narrative and attorney McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
