Makeup Artists and Hair Stylist Guild Awards 2024 Winners List – Live Update

Master, Saltburn and Barbie were the big film winners at the 11th Annual Makeup Artists and Hair Stylist Guild Awards, which were presented tonight at The Beverly Hilton. See the full list of winners below.

Netflix Teacher and Amazon MGM Studios’ salty burn There were two winners: Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein film took home the award for Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Special Makeup Effects, and the dark comedy thriller Emerald Fennell won for Best Contemporary Makeup and Contemporary Hairstyling.

The great success of Warner Bros., directed by Gerwig Barbie took home the Best Period and/or Character Hairstyle.

Since the modern MUAHS Awards began in 2014, one of its biggest makeup or hair-winning films has won the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling every year except 2022. The Academy Award went to Tammy Faye’s eyes, who competed for three guild awards but went home empty-handed.

But among Sunday night’s MUAHS winners, only Teacher She is nominated for the Oscar for Makeup and Hairstyling. She will face Golda, Oppenheimer, Poor and Snow Society.

The first award of the night after three tributes to his career went to The Young and the Restless. This came after “a little mix-up” in which presenter Kate Linder was given the wrong envelope and announced Y&R as winner of the makeup award. “It happened at the Oscars, it can happen here,” co-host John Brotherton said with a smile.

But the award for Best Day Makeup finally went to Swanthula Boulet and Dracmorda Boulet for The Boulet brothers’ dragula.

The winners in the Limited TV, Miniseries or Television Movie categories were The morning program (Contemporary Hairstyle), The idol (Contemporary makeup), The crown (period and/or character makeup) and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (Period and/or character hairstyle) and The last of us (Special makeup effects).

dancing with the stars took the first three awards in the categories of Television Special, Live Program Series of One Hour or More, for Contemporary Makeup, Contemporary Hail Hair, and Period and/or Character Hair. But Saturday Live Night spoiled the potential sweep by winning Best Special Makeup Effects and Period and/or Character Makeup.

There were two more double winners tonight: the commercial and music video awards for hair and makeup went to American Horror Story: Delicateand the Theatrical Makeup and Hairstyling awards were swept by How the Grinch Stole Dr. Seuss’ Christmas! The musical.

The show opened with a tribute to five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening, who received the MUAHS Distinguished Craftsman honor. The 2024 MUAHS Lifetime Achievement Awards went to Kevin Haney, an Oscar and Emmy winning makeup artist best known for his work on Driving Miss Daisy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Hocus Pocus 2. The start Saturday night live in the 1980s, including the development of Jiminy Glick.

Next to receive the MUAHS lifetime honor was Ora T. Green, an Emmy-nominated stylist known for her work on Star Trek: Nemesis, Blade and good times. Her tribute was introduced by Marla Gibbs, who highlighted Green’s “outstanding contributions to the industry” and noted that her “impact extends far beyond the world of entertainment.” “Her pioneering spirit has inspired generations of aspiring stylists and her commitment to excellence serves as a testament to her power of passion and perseverance in the pursuit of artistic excellence.”

He then passed it on to LeVar Burton, who finished the introduction: “There are many aspects and layers to the tasks of stylists on a production… (including) the proverbial ‘I’ve got your back.’ That saying perfectly describes Ora Green.”

Green, who joined IATSE Local 706, said in 1977, “I’m so happy to be here that I can’t tell you. Because I’ve never had anything take my breath away, and this did. … I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
