Marvel team member dies on ‘Wonder Man’ TV set

A crew member working on Marvel’s “Wonder Man” television series died after an accident at the Radford Studio Center (formerly CBS Radford), Variety Has confirmed.

The Los Angeles County coroner identified the crew member as Juan Osorio, a 41-year-old rigger who goes by the nickname “Spike” and lived in Temple City. Osorio died after falling from the rafters Tuesday morning. Filming on “Wonder Man” was not happening at the time of the accident and production is now paused for the day.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident,” a Marvel spokesperson said in a statement.

IATSE President Matthew D. Loeb also issued a statement calling the crew member’s death a “tragic loss.”

“Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. “We are working to support our member’s family, as well as his peers and colleagues,” Loeb said. “Set safety is our top priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way we can. On Wednesday, GoFundMe promoted a fundraiser created by Osorio’s friends.

“On February 6, 2024, our friend Spike lost his life on the set of Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’ at (Radford Studio Center) due to possible structural failure,” the fundraiser’s description reads. . “We hope that the production company, the facilities, MBS and Marvel Studios handle things correctly, but we expect a long road riddled with legal fees and expenses. Meanwhile, the bills will mount and the widow, boom operator Joanne W., will have to take care of everything. Help if you can, we really appreciate it.”

The fundraiser has a goal of $150,000 and currently has more than 1,000 donations totaling more than $120,000.
