McDonald’s restaurants across Australia have been forced to temporarily close and other branches around the world have reported a widespread technological issue meaning customers are unable to pay for their food.

Australian restaurants’ internal systems have been offline since approximately 3:10 p.m. local time, according to a report from News.com.au.

Online IT issues have also been reported in China, including Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Germany.

In Australia, some restaurants’ internal systems have been offline since approximately 3:10 pm local time. Some stores have been forced to close completely, while others are only accepting cash orders, according to a report from news.com.au.

A McDonald’s employee in New Zealand told New Zealand Herald that a computer server failure meant they couldn’t take any orders or serve food, and the screens used to take orders are currently not working.

Customers in Hong Kong have been able to purchase food, but cannot use mobile or self-service kiosks, according to a Facebook post on Friday. He says the outage is due to a “computer system failure.”

“Please place your order directly at the restaurant counter,” the statement continued.

McDonald’s Taiwan has issued a similar statement, saying its “24-hour Happy Delivery” and phone orders have been temporarily suspended as the system is undergoing maintenance.

Social media users in the UK have said they have been unable to order food, but McDonald’s UK has not confirmed this. According to data from down detector website, UK-based McDonald’s app users began reporting problems with orders this morning around 5:30 a.m. local time.

Reddit users have reported other issues in the US, Canada, and the Netherlands. X users have also reported problems in Germany.
