For the second time in less than a year, the Mountain East Conference is losing a member school. Notre Dame College has announced that the school will end in-person instruction at the end of the spring 2024 semester.
“Throughout this long process, we evaluated all possible options to continue the mission of Notre Dame College,” said Terri Bradford Eason, president of the board of trustees of Notre Dame College. “Our primary goal has been to ensure that our students can successfully continue their education, graduate and, in the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame, live a life of personal, professional and global responsibility.”
“On behalf of the Mountain East Conference, we are deeply saddened by today’s announcement that Notre Dame College will end in-person instruction at the end of the spring 2024 semester, ending a century-plus tradition of higher education. ”said MEC Commissioner Reid Amos.
“As a founding member of the league, we thank Notre Dame College for its strong membership and numerous contributions that have enhanced the MEC over our first 11 years.”
The South Euclid, Ohio-based school joined the league when it formed in 2013. Another Ohio school and MEC member, Urbana University, closed in 2020.
In August, Alderson Broaddus University ceased operations due to financial difficulties.
In January, the MEC extended an invitation to Point Park University in Pittsburgh to join the league. They will do so in July as they transition from Division III to Division II.
