michael jacksonMJ’s mother has amassed a fortune since her son’s death, to the tune of tens of millions, which is why she can afford to pay her own lawyers…so says MJ’s estate.

A representative for the estate confirms to TMZ that they have filed legal documents in their ongoing dispute with Katherine Jackson for the attorney fees that he is trying to get the estate to cover… for a settlement that the estate itself closed, which it is currently appealing.

TMZ has seen the paperwork…and it presents financial information that, if accurate, is absolutely astonishing.

In the filing, the estate claims there is an enormous amount of cash and other benefits Katherine has received since Michael’s death in 2009… and the estate’s executors allege it all amounts to more than $55 million over the nearly 15 years .

A good portion of that money, the estate claims, comes in the form of a monthly allowance it says Katherine receives from MJ’s estate, amounting to more than $160,000 a month.

That award, plus other cash payments, amounts to $33 million of the $55 million total, according to the estate.

On top of that, doctors say Katherine is well taken care of by the estate… which claims to have shelled out more than $15 million to buy and upgrade her luxury home, not to mention paying for her transportation and other benefits. as a private gardener, chef and security.

The goal of the executors laying all this out is to bolster their argument that Katherine can afford to cover her own attorney’s fees while she presses forward with her appeal to fight a huge business deal the estate struck… between her and Michael’s son, BlanketThey fought together until recently.

It’s unclear what exactly that deal is, but it appears to be related to the blockbuster deal the estate struck for Sony to buy half of MJ’s music catalog for 9 figures.

We broke history… Throw Blanket legal documents submitted Earlier this week, that made it clear that he also felt Katherine should cover her own attorney’s fees for the appeal, and that the estate shouldn’t have to foot the bill.

Blanket was on Katherine’s side until a judge finally ruled against them and decided there was no point in pursuing an appeal of that ruling.

Blanket now says he wants out of the fight and that Katherine is alone for the appeal.

We reached out to Katherine’s team…so far, no response.
