That brief back-and-forth between Michelle Yeoh and Emma Stone during the Best Actress presentation apparently requires some explanation.
Five former Best Actress Oscar winners, including Yeoh and Jennifer Lawrence, took the stage to greet this year’s winner.
Stone came on stage after his victory was announced and Yeoh began handing him the trophy. But instead of brushing it off, Yeoh grabbed him firmly and began dragging Stone towards Lawrence, who in turn took him in a somewhat awkward submission fight.
Ultimately, Stone obtained exclusive possession.
Today, Yeoh posted about the moment on Instagram with a mild apology in her caption.
“Congratulations Emma!! I confused you, but I wanted to share that glorious moment of giving you the Oscar along with your best friend Jennifer!! Reminded me of my Bae Jamie Lee Curtis ♥️✨ always there for each other! 😘😘😘”
