It was a frustrating day for Michigan State basketball fans as they watched their Spartans lose their second straight home game. MSU was the favorite in both games.
There were a lot of things MSU fans were upset about. The offense seemed completely stagnant in the second half, and plays weren’t even set to be run until there were 10 seconds left on the clock. Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins I couldn’t take a shot, and Xavier Booker was inexplicably benched for Mady Sissoko to close out the game despite being a starter and leading the team in plus-minus on the night.
After the game, MSU fans took to social media to express their frustrations over the loss, and you can see some of the most colorful reactions from fans and media members below.
Xavier Booker: 17 minutes, +11
Mady Sissoko: 16 minutes, -6.
Sissoko played the last 8-9 minutes. Booker did not touch the court.

Six points in the final 10 minutes. I wonder if there are any important players who could score that would have been a little helpful.

I have no idea how you start Xavier Booker, watch him go +8 in big minutes, then decide to move away from him in favor of Mady Sissoko and watch your offense go scoreless for 4 minutes straight.

Xavier Booker’s 7 PTS were the second-most points MSU has gotten from a big man since Jan. 11 (Cooper: 10 vs. PSU).
# of 7+ games pt vs alto major in ’23/24:
– Reserve: 1 (14 G)
– Cooper: 3 (21 G)
– Sissoko: 1 (21G)
– Kohler: 0 (14G)– Justin Thind (@JustinThind) February 25, 2024
Disastrous loss. MSU is firmly back on the bubble and needs two wins with three left to close out the regular season. Booker had some brilliant minutes but the two big lineups ruined the game. Be firm on the roster and substitutions. Breakthrough result. pic.twitter.com/Dph6HhxDRY

Like Dantonio, I can credit Izzo as the 🐐 coach of his respective sport, as well as everything he has done for the MSU athletic program.
But at the same time I can say that he, the staff and his current operation are not setting this program up for any kind of success.

34 not playing the final stretch is not the story; half of MSU’s veteran core are MIA yes it is.
I have defended the 11 tirelessly because when it is good it is ELITE. But even though 25 made the jump to senior year, our point guard still has routine absences. It is increasingly difficult to defend.

From a 5-team preseason to a team that is 17-11 and is about to miss the tournament.
What a shame.

I know we’re all focused on the bottom line, but MSU lost because they gave up 51 percent shooting after halftime, Tyson Walker shot 5 of 15 and Jaden Akins shot 1 of 9.

“The problems are MUCH more than a small problem in the front court” Okay, yeah, the team isn’t great, why make it even harder for yourself?

Mady made two hugely critical mistakes in the final 15 seconds with the game on the line, but thank goodness she’s there for reasons.

Do we need to have an honest conversation about Tom Izzo?
state of michigan is 76-50 since reaching the 2019 Final Four, including 40-36 in Big Ten play. This program has been far below the standard that Izzo himself set for several years.

He went from discussing the possibility of playing up to a 5/6 spot at the start of the week to wondering if they’ll even get in. However, this shouldn’t be all that surprising at this point, as being on the bubble at the end of February is the new norm for MSU.
Brutal loss. Even worse week.

I guess the reason I’m not screaming and freaking out about this is because Coach is clearly happy with all of this. Why be angrier than him?
— Fireball Sommelier (@Sheehan_Sports) February 25, 2024
The pitch doesn’t always have to be “Izzo needs to go” or “Is Izzo washed up?”
It is allowed to say “Izzo lost that game” without everything having to be an accusation of whether his tenure is over. Otherwise, for some people it will be very long years.
