Karolina Shiino, the Ukrainian-born winner of last month’s Miss Japan pageant, has renounced her title, the pageant’s organizer said Monday, after a magazine reported that she was having an affair with a married man.
It is the first time that a Miss Japan winner has renounced her title. The organizer said the position will be vacant during the year.
Shukan Bunshun reported last Wednesday that Shiino, 26, was dating a married doctor. However, the Miss Japan organizer refuted the claim on Thursday, saying that he had claimed that he was single and that she did not know that he was married.
