Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi REACTS to his Padma Bhushan victory: ‘India has finally…’ | Exclusive

Veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty has been announced as one of the recipients of the Padma Bhushan for his outstanding contribution to art. He debuted with Mrinal Sen’s Mrigayaa in 1976, which won him the Best Actor award at the National Film Awards. That same year he ventured into Hindi cinema with Do Anjaane. Fondly known as Disco Dancer, he set a new precedent for Hindi cinema hero with the dance moves of him. He has been a part of super hit songs like I Am A Disco Dancer, Yaad Aa Raha Hai and Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja. Apart from carving a niche for himself in commercial films, he has also earned praise for his nuanced performances in films like Kasturi, Agneepath, Tahader Katha, Titli, Guru and Projapoti, among others.

Sharing his joy over his father’s big win, his youngest son Namashi Chakraborty exclusively tells News18 Showsha, “Dad is filming in a remote area near Bengaluru right now. So none of us are with him. In fact, we weren’t even aware that he had gotten the award because we hadn’t talked to Dad. He had not been informed before that he had been congratulated with this honor. When we got the news last night around eleven, we somehow managed to get in touch with him. All of us are extremely proud and happy. “It’s just an overwhelming feeling.”

Namashi has often spoken about how his father has been his biggest source of inspiration and believes that his victory in Padma Bhushan will motivate him too to give his best. “When we got the news last night, we were very excited. What my father has achieved is almost impossible. The way he has succeeded in life, the struggle he has seen is unimaginable and achieving that level of success seems like something that is beyond me. For every child, his greatest inspiration is his parents. I have been completely in awe of my father since he was a child. “It’s his early life, rather than his success as a movie star, that continues to inspire me,” he says.

So do you think the award came to your father too late in his career? “I think India has finally given its original hero his due. My father has never asked for an award in his entire life. He always won them on his own merit. That’s what makes us most proud. So it doesn’t matter when he got the award,” says Namashi, who made his acting debut with Bad Boy last year.

Interestingly, Usha Uthup has also been honored with Padma Bhushan for her outstanding contribution to music. Both the singer and the Dance Dance star have collaborated on numerous songs over the years, which became raging sensations. Commenting on the same, Namashi says, “Usha aunty and my dad have had great successes. In fact, she has done lip service for him. My dad was dressed as a drag icon in the song (Aankhon Se Pee Le). She has literally sung for him on Roti Ki Keemat. It was a super hit song in its day. Their association goes back many years. Like dad, she too is a legend.”

So, are there plans for a grand celebration soon at the Chakraborty house? “We are a very simple family. We do not believe in big parties. However, we are celebrating as a family. Dad is shooting. Two of my brothers are in the United States. It’s just me, Mimoh and mom in Mumbai. Today we will be at home and enjoy good Bengali food,” says the 31-year-old.
