Mohammed Shami is expected to miss the Indian Premier League and the 2024 T20 World Cup and the seamer is likely to return to action for the home Tests against Bangladesh later this year. Shami underwent right Achilles tendon surgery in London last month and is now back in India.
“Shami’s surgery is over and he is back in India. Her return is scheduled for the home series against Bangladesh,” says BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

Shami missed the recent five-Test series against England and now faces a long road before regaining match fitness. The Indian cricket board is understood to want him in top form for crucial Test assignments, including the away series against Australia, later this year and will not risk him for white-ball assignments.
In another development, wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after seeing a specialist in London. Rahul complained of pain in his right quadriceps after the first Test against England in Hyderabad and did not participate in the rest of the series.
The medical procedure has been completed and Rahul is recovering at the NCA. He is likely to soon get clearance to play in the Indian Premier League.
“KL Rahul needed an injection, he started rehabilitation and is now recovering at the NCA,” says Shah.

The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League begins on March 22 with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai.
The schedule for the first phase of the league is now out and the rest are likely to be announced when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gets some clarity on the election dates.
