Children playing naughty pranks, such as ringing doorbells and running away, are common in residential societies. However, the situation took an unusual turn when two young women entered a building in Mumbai around 2:30 am with the sole purpose of “disturbing” the residents. Shresht Poddar, a resident, took to social media, sharing CCTV footage and detailing how these women scared the mostly elderly residents by locking their doors from outside before ringing the bells unnecessarily.

In a series of videos, Poddar recounted the disturbing experience, highlighting the fear caused by the riots, especially among the mostly elderly residents. The building had a history of security problems, with attempted robberies, electrical fires and even murders in the surrounding area in recent years.

Describing the incident, Poddar explained: “Loud noises at night disturb and scare us. We used to have a security guard. Last night at 2.30 am several doorbells scared my mom and me. CCTV had a memory problem so it was “offline”. “No one could be seen from the windows.”

After fixing the CCTV in the morning, Poddar discovered footage of two apparently drunk girls watching the camera. They proceeded to climb the stairs, check the nameplates, try to lock the doors from the outside, and ring doorbells continuously. Expressing his frustration, Poddar noted that he could have overlooked such behavior if it were children, but the fact that these “adults” recognized the CCTV cameras and persisted with his actions bothered him.

Looking for suggestions, he searched the Internet for ideas on how to deal with the situation.

The Internet responded with several suggestions, one of which showed empathy: “Some of these pranks may be a nightmare for others, I hope the police have been reported and necessary action is taken.” Another said: “I think (I think) you can file a complaint.” of nuisance and intrusion or harassment of older people.”

However, Poddar later shared an update and wrote, “The girls have been identified offline and reprimanded. There was never the intention to punish them in any of the ways suggested by many people here. The neighbors have decided not to file a complaint with the police.”
