Superstar Mahesh Babu’s blockbuster Srimanthudu, directed by Koratala Siva under Mythri Movie Makers, is entangled in a legal battle over copyright infringement.
Writer Sarath Chandra filed a case before the Nampally Criminal Court and the city’s Civil Court in 2017, alleging that the story of the film was copied from his story ‘Chachenta Prema’, which was published in Swathi magazine.
Meanwhile, the film’s makers issued a statement explaining the film’s creative integrity. They urged the media and commentators to refrain from drawing premature conclusions. Furthermore, they stated that they strongly defend the uniqueness of Srimanthudu.
The statement reads, “We address the discussion around Mr. Koratala Siva’s ‘Srimanthudu’ amidst claims of similarity with the novel ‘Chachentha Prema. Both works, which exist in the public domain, show distinct narratives without overlap, a fact easily verifiable by those who examine the book and the film.
As the matter is currently under legal review, with no hearings or verdicts to date, we urge the media and commentators to refrain from drawing premature conclusions. We emphasize the importance of basing discourse on informed comparisons and legal outcomes.
We firmly maintain the uniqueness of ‘Srimanthudu’ and our core idea of adopting a village and encourage all stakeholders to personally evaluate the two works.
