Netflix’s Atlas turns Jennifer Lopez into a mech pilot in first trailer

Set in a wild future where humanity has begun using huge AI-powered robots to wage war, Atlas tells the story of how data analyst Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer López) is forced to work with a renegade machine to save the Earth. Despite the widespread use of mechs around the world, Shepherd cannot shake her deep distrust of thinking machines, which appear to be designed to operate autonomously or under the control of a human pilot.

But when Shepherd is chosen to take part in an undercover mission to take down a rogue robot, she finds herself thrust into danger from which only a machine can protect her. Although Atlas‘The new trailer makes it difficult to get a sense of the plot or scope of the film, it’s clear that Peyton and cinematographer John Schwartzman are going for an epic vibe judging by the shots of Atlas falling to the ground in his robot from a ship that explodes.

It also looks like we’ll be seeing Sterling K. Brown and Simu Liu chewing scenery when they’re not busy getting in on the action. But what is it really going to make or break? Atlas when it releases on May 24th it will probably be the amount of time the movie spends letting its robots do sick tricks so we can all ogle.
