HOFFMAN AND HER HUSBAND HAND PICKED THIS LOCATION. IT IS AN OLD AND VERY RESISTANT BUILDING. YOU ARE NOW DIRECTLY IN THE TARGET AREA OF THE NEW ROYALS STADIUM. SO WE DIDN’T KNOW UNTIL LAST TUESDAY. THE HEARTBREAKING NEWS CAME COURTESY OF WATCHING THE PRESS CONFERENCE. We were devastated, depressed and confused, and not the stadium was shown, but some other buildings right above our building. A BIG BLOW, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO BREAK HIS SPIRIT. A LOT OF WORK HAS BEEN GOING INTO THIS, SO THE DREAM WILL CONTINUE FORWARD. REALLY WHAT I WANT TO DO IS SHOW YOU WHAT WE BRING. THEY WILL OPEN AS PLANNED, IN THE HOPE THAT THE CHEESE STAYS INSIDE. THE ROYALS WILL FIND YOU A NEW LOCATION. THERE IS NOTHING YOU COULD KNOW, REPLACE WHAT WE HAVE HERE IN THE FAMILY OWNING THE RESTAURANT. HE ALSO OWNS THIS BUILDING, SO THEY WOULD HAVE TO PAY HIM TO MOVE. A small business owner in the Crossroads District faces uncertainty as the site of her store could soon be demolished to make way for the Royals’ new stadium. Sarah Hoffmann and her husband carefully chose the location for her business, The Green Dirt on Oak, a three-story brick building set to open in just two weeks. However, the site is now in the crosshairs of the Royals’ new stadium plans, and dozens of businesses and tenants in the area are in the same boat. “We found out last Tuesday,” Hoffman said. “It doesn’t show the stadium, but rather some other buildings right above our building as part of the plan. We were devastated… depressed and confused. After this setback, Hoffmann is determined to move forward with her plans: “A lot of work and a lot of planning has gone into this, and a lot of people have been involved in the project helping me carry it forward,” said. Hoffmann’s love of cheese began in Weston, and now she has brought her family affair to Kansas City in the Crossroads district. They own the building, which means they would have to be paid to move in. However, they prefer to stay and hope the Royals can find a new location. “There’s nothing that can replace what we have here,” Hoffmann said. “So I really hope the Royals reconsider their plan, you know, moving somewhere out west.”
