Sony will release a new Spider-Verse animated short on its official YouTube page on March 27.
According to a press release, the animated short, titled “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story,” follows Miles Morales’ journey balancing the often opposing demands of his life as a student and as a superhero. Along the way, Miles experiences a panic attack and must confront the manifestations of his fear while discovering that, just like in crime-fighting, it is okay to reach out and ask for help.
“Miles represents many of us who do the best we can in our daily lives,” director Jarelle Dampier said in a press release. “We don’t usually realize everything we’ve been through until our own body forces us to.” “Let’s become aware of his experience. My intention is that ‘The Spider Within’ can spark deeper conversations among friends and family about their own mental health journeys, and I hope it feels like a love letter to those who adore Miles Morales”.
the short film It initially debuted at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival last year as part of Sony Pictures’ Leading and Empowering New Storytellers mentorship program. According to Sony, LENS is a “9-month leadership training program that provides candidates from underrepresented groups the opportunity to gain valuable animation leadership experience.” The digital launch of The Spider Within was in partnership with education and mental health advocacy organization, Kevin Love Fund.
“My hope for the short film would be that everyone, especially young people, understands that their feelings are valid and that they are not alone in this,” said KLF founder Kevin Love. “You see it with Spider-Man in the short film, where Miles has a trusted confidant. He’s able to take a walk with his dad and express what’s going on. We can all learn from that: how important it is to reach out to someone. , express your true emotions, speak your truth, and not keep it all inside.”
The release of Spider Within comes as fans eagerly await an update on the upcoming Spider-Verse movie, Beyond the Spider-Verse. Beyond the Spider-Verse, originally scheduled for release on March 29, 2024, was delayed indefinitely last year due to the impact of the two Hollywood attacks. There’s no word yet on when fans should expect Beyond the Spider-Verse to hit theaters.
