The new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) begins on Friday with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the tournament. Before the start of the tournament, the organizers revealed a fun advertisement featuring Rohit Sharma, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty. For the unversed, Shetty is Rahul’s father-in-law, who is married to the actor’s daughter Athiya Shetty. In the video, Shetty, a Mumbai Indians fan, and Rohit can be seen trolling Rahul.

“Family dinner chal raha hai yaar,” Rohit can be heard saying in the ad.

Rahul then called Shetty as dad in the ad but the actor took down the LSG captain saying, “No dad. Jab tak tournament chal raha hai, Sharma ji ka beta, mera beta.”

The funny ad has gone viral on social media and Rohit shared a clip of the same on X (formerly Twitter).

“Family time over @klrahul, rivalry time ab shuru ho gaya hai! @SunielVShetty ab hue humare,” Rohit captioned the video.

Meanwhile, Rohit will play under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy this season after Mumbai Indians removed him from his captaincy position.

On Wednesday, Hardik and Rohit greeted each other with a hug during the MI training session.

Pandya was asked if he had a chance to discuss the leadership change with Rohit and the Indian all-rounder had a clear answer.

“Yes and no. I don’t have much time to talk to Rohit because he has been on tour. I will definitely catch up when he joins the team,” Hardik said at the event.

Pandya also said that Rohit will continue to be a guiding force for him during the IPL despite the unexpected leadership change the franchise announced ahead of the upcoming season.

“It won’t be any different, he’ll always be there for me. This team, what they’ve accomplished, they’ve accomplished under him and I just have to keep going. He’ll have his hand on my shoulders.” ” Pandya said in a media interaction.

“We respect the fans but we focus on the sport and what is required. I focus on what is controllable, the fans have every right and I respect their opinion,” he responded when asked about the fans’ indignation over the dismissal of Rohit.
