The Academy Awards do not hand out participation trophies.
Whoopi Goldberg, who hosted the event, won an Oscar and is a former Academy board member, was the quiet voice in the room on Wednesday’s episode of The view. He argued against the hysteria over perceived “snubs” following the 2024 Oscar nominations, more specifically to Barbie director Greta Gerwig and the star of the film, actress Margot Robbie.
“It’s not the elites, it’s the entire Academy Awards family who votes for Best Picture nominations. “We all vote for Best Picture, everyone,” Goldberg said.
“You don’t get everything you want,” he added, before Sunny Hostin said that she nevertheless felt it was a “snub” to step down from filmmaker Ava DuVernay. Origin out of the Oscar race this year.
Goldberg didn’t believe it.
“There are no slights. That’s what you have to keep in mind: not everyone receives an award and it’s subjective. Movies are subjective. The movies you love may not be liked by the people who vote.”
