Olivia Munn Shares She Was Diagnosed With Breast Cancer Shortly After ‘Normal’ Mammogram

Olivia Munn has made public her diagnosis of breast cancer.

On Wednesday, the actress shared a gallery of photos and videos. on her verified Instagram account, showing her in the hospital, with a caption that read: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I hope sharing this helps others find comfort, inspiration and support in their own journey.”

Munn also shared a statement in text slides in the post, beginning: “In February 2023, in an effort to be proactive about my health, I underwent a genetic test that looks for 90 different cancer genes.”

“I tested negative for everything, including BRCA (the most well-known breast cancer gene). My sister Sara had also just tested negative,” Munn wrote. “We called each other and high-fived each other on the phone. That same winter I also had a regular mammogram. Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

The “X-Men” star, 43, explained that she has undergone four surgeries in the past 10 months, including a double mastectomy performed 30 days after her biopsy.

She has also spent many days in bed and has learned “more about cancer, cancer treatment and hormones than I ever imagined.”

“Surprisingly, I have only cried twice,” she wrote. “I guess I didn’t feel like there was time to cry.”

“Because of that score, I went for an MRI, which led to an ultrasound, which then led to a biopsy,” Munn wrote. “The biopsy showed that she had Luminal B cancer in both breasts. “Luminal B is an aggressive, fast-moving cancer.”

Munn considers herself “lucky” since “we caught him with enough time for him to have options.”

“I want the same for any woman who has to face this one day,” she wrote in her statement. “Ask your doctor to calculate your breast cancer risk assessment score.”

Munn also thanked her friends and family for their support, including her partner, comedian John Mulaney, with whom she shares a young son, Malcolm.
