Iconic Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has attempted to make light of a viral video that allegedly showed him mercilessly hitting a man, who he claimed was his disciple, with his shoe.
The video shows the popular qawwali singer punching and slapping him repeatedly while asking him for a “bottle”. The man is seen pleading with the singer, saying that he has no idea about it. In another scene, some people were seen trying to push the singer away to save the student.
Samaa TV, a Pakistani broadcaster, identified the man as its employee and said such violent behavior among singers is a worrying trend.

Khan, nephew of legendary qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, later clarified that it was a personal matter between a “ustad and his shagird (teacher and disciple)”. He posted a video featuring the man who was seen being beaten, as well as his father, to clarify his actions.
“This is a personal matter between a ustad and shagird. He is like my son. This is the relationship between a teacher and his disciple. If a disciple does something good, I shower my love on him. If he does something wrong, he is punished,” he stated in the video.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said he had also apologized to her after the incident.
In the clarification video, the beaten man admitted that he had misplaced a bottle containing holy water, which caused the incident, but clarified that there were no bad intentions behind his actions. “He is like my father.
