Chris Gauthier, the actor best known for his roles in “Once Upon a Time” and “Smallville,” died on February 23, his manager said. announced to TV Line Sunday. He was 48 years old.
Gauthier died “suddenly and unexpectedly” after a brief illness, the manager explained. The talent agency TriStar Appearances/Event Horizon Talent also confirmed the death of the Canadian actor of English origin.
“As a beloved Vancouver-based character actor, Chris shared his talents with many of us, both on television and in film. “His loss is felt not only by his fans but also by those of us who were fortunate enough to know him more personally,” the agency shared in a statement.
“On behalf of his family, we ask for privacy during this time so they can properly grieve.”
Chad Colvin of TriStar Appearances mourned the death of the “Eureka” star On Facebooktelling his followers that he “cried tears of disbelief for hours” after hearing the news from Gauthier’s wife.
“This still doesn’t seem real. How is it possible? he wrote. “A world without you is a much darker place.”
Colin O’Donoghue, who played Hook in “Once Upon a Time” alongside Gauthier’s Smee, paid tribute to his late co-star. On Instagram, writing: “Rest in peace Chris! With a broken heart! My love and thoughts are with (wife) Erin and the kids!
“We’ll miss you brother!” he continued. “You were the real captain!!”
Gauthier’s film credits include “40 Days and 40 Nights,” “Agent Cody Banks” and “Freddy vs. “Jason.”
Gauthier is survived by his wife, Erin, and two sons, Ben and Sebastian.
