Oscars 2024 Actors Omitted from In Memoriam Segment

The In Memoriam segment of the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday night paid a moving tribute to several stars and people in the film industry who have died over the past year, but, as always, social media was quick to point out the most glaring omissions.

During the broadcast, the In Memoriam segment featured Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo performing a moving rendition of “Con te partò” while images of talents who had died appeared on the stage behind them. The segment featured the likes of Matthew Perry, Chita Rivera, Ryan O’Neal, Tina Turner, Michael Gambon, Alan Arkin, Andre Braugher, Richard Lewis, Lee Sun-Kyun, and Carl Weathers.

However, actors Lance Reddick, Treat Williams, Ron Cephas Jones, Suzanne Somers, Ray Stevenson and Burt Young, legendary screenwriter and producer Norman Lear and British filmmaker Terence Davies were not in the main section and were instead added to a larger list at the end of the segment.

Social media users criticized that so many big names were relegated to the list, also because the list was difficult to read on the screen and only appeared momentarily.
