Kannan Iyer’s directorial based on the life of Indian freedom fighter Usha Mehta features Sara Ali Khan in the lead role. Emraan Hashmi also has an extended cameo as Indian independence movement activist Ram Manohar Lohia in the film. Set against the backdrop of Mahatama Gandhi’s Quit India movement, Ae Watan Mere Watan tells the story of a young woman who starts Congress radio. Radio was used to spread the message of unity and patriotism among Indians to fight against colonial oppression.

Fighter, Netflix

Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone play Squadron Leader Shamsher Pathania and Squadron Leader Minal Rathore respectively in Sidharth Anand’s aerial action thriller. The film is inspired by the Pulwama terrorist attack on the Indian armed forces. Fighter tells the story of Shamsher, also known as Patty, who avenges the cowardly attack on Indian Army soldiers. Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi, Karan Singh Grover, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Talat Aziz, Ashutosh Rana, Geeta Agrawal and others play crucial roles in the film. The Hrithik-Deepika starrer started streaming on Netflix from March 21.

Oppenheimer, Jio Cinema

Oscar-winning Christopher Nolan’s epic science thriller based on the life of Robert J. Oppenheimer premiered on Jio Cinema on March 21. In addition to the idea and politics tied to the making of the nuclear bomb, the film also delves into the psyche and relationships of Robert Oppenheimer. Known as Christopher’s best works, Oppenheimer also earned Cillian Murphy a Best Actor Oscar for playing the title character. Robert Downy Jr also won Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Oscars for his portrayal of Rear Admiral Lewis Strauss.

Lootere, Disney+Hotstar

The kidnapping drama features Rajat Kapoor as the captain of a cargo ship that is captured by Somali pirates on the high seas. The Jai Mehta directorial created by Hansal Mehta shows the negotiations between the Indian government and the pirates in the attempt to free the hostages. Lootere starts streaming on Disney+Hotstar from March 22.

X-Men ’97, Disney+Hotstar

Marvel’s animated series, X Men ’97, began streaming on Disney+Hotstar from March 20. The show is the revival of X Men: The Animated Series. It shows the X-Men preparing for new challenges after the death of their leader, Professor X, also known as Charles Xavier. The X-Men also try to ensure that mutants can coexist with humans despite political and scientific threats. The series is backed by Marvel Studios Animation. DeMayo is the head writer for the first two seasons and Jake Castorena is the supervising director.

3 Body Problem, Netflix

3 Body Problem is an adaptation of the novel series of the same name by Liu Cixin. The eight-episode sci-fi series tells the story of Ye Wenjie, an astrophysicist whose decision in the 1960s resonates across space and time. The story then cuts to the present day, where a group of scientists come together to face humanity’s greatest threat.

Disney+ star Abraham Ozler

The Jayaram-Mammootty starrer Malayalam thriller started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from March 20. Jayaram’s ACP Abraham Ozler investigates the death of an IT employee and goes to great lengths to capture a dangerous serial killer. Anaswara Rajan, Anoop Menon, Arjun Ashokan, Arya Salim, Senthil Krishna, Jagadish, Saiju Kurup and Dileesh Pothan also play crucial roles in the film. Abraham Ozler is directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas and written by Randheer Krishnan. The crime saga is backed by Midhun and Irshad M Hassan.
