Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes talked about the energy Travis Kelce brings to the team during practice and his dedication to preparing each week.

Mahomes spoke to reporters just days before he and his team travel to Las Vegas for Super Bowl LVIII.

In a news conference, he praised his teammate and favorite target, saying his dedication raised the level of other Chiefs players.

‘He brings a ton (of energy). People don’t even see it in practice. I mean, the energy that he has,” Mahomes explained.

‘You want to do every rep. We have to take him out of practice just to give him a break, and he wants to be there every play.

Mahomes says Kelce’s dedication to preparation raises standard for rest of team
When Kelce was injured earlier in the year, Mahomes said they had to reduce their effort.

“And I think that mentality … when you see the (future) Hall of Fame tight end and he wants to be the guy that works the hardest, it raises everyone’s standard.”

‘Raise the level of how you practice. Raise the standards for how you prepare. Because, you know, that guy who’s done it at the highest level wants to keep doing it every week, every day.

‘And at the same time, he has a great time doing it. And I think that shows that you can work really hard and still have fun coming to work every day.”

Mahomes also talked about the start of the season, when the tight end was dealing with an ankle injury that led to him missing the first game of the season.

“There were times throughout the season where we had to take him out,” Mahomes revealed. ‘I mean, he didn’t want to, but we had to get him out so his body could heal.

“And it wasn’t like his mind wasn’t there, but you could see his body, it wasn’t moving like it always moves.” I think just with rest and… more time since the original injuries occurred, you could see now that his body was recovering, and we felt really good going in, even in that Cincy game… and getting to the last week, rest and get to the playoffs.

“You could tell his body was getting back to the real Travis Kelce, so it was definitely good for him. “And hopefully we can keep this going, not just in this game, but in future years as well.”
