Peter Philips says King Charles is ‘frustrated’ by cancer treatments

King Charles is eager to get back to work amid his cancer treatment, a member of the royal family said.

Peter Phillips, 46, is the eldest son of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips. The king’s nephew was Queen Elizabeth II and the first grandson of Prince Philip.

On Sunday, Phillips appeared on Royal report from Sky News Australia while visiting the country to support the ISPS Handa charity.

During his interview, Phillips, who is 18th in line to the throne, spoke briefly about the king’s health, telling host Caroline Di Russo that Charles was “in good spirits” but “frustrated.”

“I think ultimately he’s enormously frustrated,” Phillips said. “He’s frustrated because he can’t move on and do everything he wants.”

“But he is very pragmatic,” he said of the king. “He understands that there’s a period of time where he really needs to focus on himself. But at the same time, he’s always pushing his staff and everyone, his doctors and nurses to be able to say, actually, you know, can I ?do this? Can I do that?

The palace said the king began a “regular treatment programme” that day, adding that his medical team advised him to take a break from his “public duties” while he underwent treatment.

The king has been largely absent from the public eye since the announcement, although he has held some meetings at Buckingham Palace and been photographed several times since February.

Charles has also supported Kate Middleton, who revealed on Friday that she had been receiving preventative chemotherapy after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said the king had “remained in close contact with his beloved daughter-in-law over recent weeks”.

Buckingham Palace has not yet announced when the king will return to public duties.
